About

I’m India Stewardson, a ceramicist based in Brighton, UK and the hands behind IND Ceramics - a small-batch pottery studio creating warm, minimalist pieces designed to bring beauty to everyday rituals.

I first dipped a toe in pottery during Covid in 2020. I was bored, restless, and tired of passively staring at screens. Itching to make something beyond banana bread, an online mini-handbuilding course sparked what’s since become an enduring passion.

I now work from my home studio (which also happens to be the spare bedroom and office - chaos, always). Everything I make is thrown and glazed by hand in small batches or one-off pieces with a focus on texture, form, and atmosphere. My style is natural and grounded, with inspiration drawn from everywhere; the coast, old buildings, music, films, food, nature.

What I love most about ceramics is its resistance to control. A piece can crack, discolour, collapse or explode - there's an invitation for disaster at every stage of the process. Working with clay is a practice I find almost religious in its lessons in patience, surrender, and starting again.

IND Ceramics exists to elevate the small things - morning coffee, a candlelit bath or a shared table with friends. These are pieces that make ordinary moments feel softer, slower, and a little bit more special.
